    Research

    My phD project is devoted to develop integrative process-based models for describing biodiversity dynamics across spatiotemporal scales (from local to biogeographical scales) and ecological levels (from individual genomic composition to ecological assemblages). To achieve this, the proposed models will integrate concepts of current ecological theories at low ecological levels (e.g. metabolic, neutral, coexistence theories) to obtain emergent patterns from population to metacommunity dynamics. Study systems will be provided by oceanic islands, which are an eminent model system for biodiversity dynamics. Emergent properties will be contrasted with theoretical predictions from island biogeography theories and ultimately used for improving and unifying theories, interacting with empirical studies and informing conservation planing.
